What could the future of citizen participation look like? For the Municipality of Eindhoven, we built an installation for gathering input from citizens for future urban development projects, situated at the location of the plans.

During the past decades the importance of citizen participation in urban planning processes has increased. In this project we explored a more experiential side of participation in urban planning to invent new structures for approaching and engaging citizens who are not yet involved. The result is “Denk een Eindje Mee!”: an augmented reality mirror installation for gathering input from citizens for future urban development projects, situated at the location of the plans.

Stimulating the participants’ imagination, we give citizens the tools to narrate their story of needs and wishes in relation to urban developments. The installation embodies a new direction for citizen participation: it allows for embodied and visual expression of wishes, situated on the location where urban developments will take place.

This project was graded with an Excellent, with compliments from the project client (Eindhoven Municipality)
